Two Cherry Bombs

I have never seen Twilight. I do not see the fuss about Robert whatshisname, I know a lot of women do but unfortunately to me he just looks like an eager geography student. Kristin Stewart on the other hand has the charisma of an actress. I can say this because I haven't even seen her in a film and yet when I see a photo of her in a magazine or watch an interview of her snarling she oozes attitude.

She is about to star in the film called Runaways with Dakota Fanning. Yes Dakota Fanning, the weird woman-child best known for her part in Friends. She's been in other things but this is probably the best screen time she's got under her belt. We've all seen it about 50 times and we love Joey a lot. The Runaways follows Kristen who stars as Joan Jett and Dakota as her bandmate Cherie Currie in their all female band in a male dominated industry in the 1970s.

I don't know much about The Runaways or Joan Jett for that matter but I think I might actually go to see if Kristen can act as well as I presume she can. Kristen and Dakota sing in the movie for their roles which makes me ask the question I ponder everytime I watch a film based on some sort of musical story like Walk The Line (Johnny Cash) and Control (Joy Division) Chicago, Moulin Rouge etc etc; why can all actors and actresses sing? Do they have some sort of chip in them that automatically makes them be all round great entertainers? It doesn't work the other way round you see, remember Crossroads? Britney's teen flick? I loved it because I'm not fussy but her acting was TERRIBLE. Madonna is another offender.

Dakota and Kristen as Cherie Currie and Joan Jett from The Runaways. They are trying sooooo hard to get away from their squeaky clean images. Dakota will never beat Friends fame through.

Joan Jett circa 1970s. I think.
Big hair for Joan Jett
Kristen looking suitably Joan Jettish, complete with rock star bags under her eyes. She definitely does not want to go down the polished Hollywood look. She looks happiest in pared down clothes.

Although she looks red carpet hot in Proenza Schouler complete with her unimpressed look. Your on a red carpet Kristen! Cheer up Charlie! This is the attitude I was telling you about.

She definitely doesn't feel too comfortable in this girly bandeau dress. This is a girl who is definitely more comfortable in jeans and a tee.

I love this. The bright coral is perfect for her and the lips look ace. She looks a bit more chuffed with life too.

Mr and Mrs Twilight. Teaming a leather jacket with a tweed dress is definitely more her style

I'm looking forward to watching Kristen's acting debut (in my eyes) Will she pull it off?

Let's not beat about the bush. Dakota's greatest moment.

The Dude

The Dude is my idol. Seriously if you haven't seen The Big Lebowski then I don't believe you. If ever there was an argument for being unemployed, drinking heavily and not worrying about a thing then The Dude has it in the bag. That analogy may leave you thinking of the poor souls waiting for Spar to open on Victoria Road in Torry every morning (I see them every day on the number 12 bus) but it can be more glamourous than that, especially if you're The Dude.

First of all, you have to take up bowling. That can be your new hobby. Second of all make the white russian your drink of choice. This shouldn't be a problem unless your a vegan because it's delicious and tastes more like a pudding or a milkshake than a throat burning vodka or jagermeister - I'm sick of them after last Saturday night. If this is your drink though, be aware that you might put on a few pounds as white russians are calorific. I've researched this of course when I was considering taking up The Dude's lifestyle. Thirdly get yourself a good soundtrack to your life. The Big Lebowski has one of the best movie soundtracks ever. It's like Pulp Fiction or Almost Famous - sometimes you just watch these films so you can listen to the songs.

After a bad day the best option is to probably give up on the rat race and join The Dude's lifestyle choice. I'm sure there's a few practicalities that I've skimmed over but basically following this simple lifestyle should result in the zen like state The Dude is in - even when times get tough. And don't forgot to keep a couple of close-knit friends - you need somebody to bowl with.

The white russian - probably the greatest drink around, do you agree?

The Soundtrack - On Amazon for £4.77. Bargain! Classics from Bob Dylan and Captain Beefheart. Lovely.

Jeff Bridges is back. Crazy heart is on at Cineworld in Union Square in Aberdeen. Looking forward to seeing it.

I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in!

There's a Blair!

I have a serious obsession with Gossip Girl. It's a guilty pleasure and I have no apologies for it. Whilst looking at Marie Claire dot com, I found new photos of the Gossip Girl cast filming the new season. I enjoy the upper east side fantasy that is Gossip Girl so here's a few of the new season photos complete with random facts from New York.

There's a few clothes I've seen recently that I've thought (and said out loud once or twice): "there's a Blair!" Pretty ridiculous I know but when you can't actually afford to buy clothes the next best thing is looking and analysing! And not that any of them need my fashion advice, I've still put a few of my suggestions here.

I like Blair with jeans on. Chuck Bass looks sharp as usual. I just wanted a new season photo of Chuck, it's been so long since he's been on my telly :)

Classic Blair AKA Leighton Meester: Lovely Coat and always tights. She was born in prison apparently. Her family are nuts. You would never guess this looking at this photo, Blair is so prim and proper.

This is a Blair dress from French Connection. I love how the stylist has really stuck to styles for all the characters. It's like how the Spice Girls had to stick to their persona! I always wanted to be Ginger Spice...

Jenny AKA Taylor Momsen: I can't believe this girl is 16 years old. I like her grungy style in GG and in real life. It really suits her. Her hair looks ace too.

I think Jenny would wear this dress. She's so skinny she would get away with all the lace crop tops going around at the moment. Grunge is fun. This dress is from Miss Selfridge.

Serena AKA Blake Lively: Blair is definitely my favourite because she's funnier. And she goes out with Chuck Bass. Serena was Chuck's brother in season 2. If Chuck Bass was my brother I would have broken the law. Shame on you for not doing that Serena.

This is a Serena dress from Miss Selfridge. She likes to get her boobs out a lot. If I had her boobs I would too though.

Vanessa AKA Jessica Szohr: They call her kooky and eccentric Vanessa but clearly she's more gorgeous than any of the characters. She is Ed Westwick who plays Chuck Bass's girlfriend in real life.

She would look very cute in this playsuit from ASOS. I love this playsuit, it looks like a really good fit. Vanessa in GG doesn't go anywhere without her big gypsy style hoop earings. I bet the stylist would style this playsuit up with them. I wish she would ditch them though.

Save BBC 6music and Asian Network

As you will see from one of my first posts all those months ago I love BBC 6music with all my heart. Please sign the petition to save it and the Asian Network. Digital radio will never be the same if these stations are gone. I listened to it in places I've worked all over Aberdeen and it was an integral part of the prison regime. You understand I wasn't incarcerated, I just worked there. And now it helps as a study aid and is the soundtrack to my morning (with the BBC news on mute - need to keep up with the headlines).

To cut these stations would be unacceptable, we are the license players so let's use our voice!

Sign the petition here and tell your friends and lovers to sign up too!

Mini me

My friend Lauren alerted me the other day that Topshop stock baby clothes. The line is called Mini and is pretty cute! I'm not the maternal type really but I think I would quite like a child to dress up. Maybe Topshop will start doing babies soon, if they do I want a Suri-a-like or maybe even a Shiloh Nouvel-a-like. I haven't decided yet.

Mini Rose Jeggings. At £22 they don't come cheap

I do like a white tee

This is my favourite. Looks super cosyMini floral crew sweat, a crew sweatfor a minor? I thought I had seen everything and then this!

Of course Suri Cruise apparently shops in Baghere, the ultimate haute couture for the enfant. I do mean Suri and not her mother or father of course. That child definitely is in complete control of her parents and she has better style than them too. Sorry Tom, but the aviators just don't do it for me anymore.

Haute Couture Enfant. This probably costs more than life itself because the price is not even on the website. And the website is French so I didn't understand anything. The models look like mini grown ups like in Victorian times when childhood didn't exist and what we now know as children were in fact just mini adults who should be seen and not heard.

Suri the mini adult? Her cover is blown with the big pink elephant. Celeste of Babar fame of course.
Again Elmo gives the game away, we know your not a woman yet Cruise! I really want that coat.

I realise male clothes don't get a much of a mention on here. I always think they are never as exciting as girls clothes. I take it back though - the male infant clothes in Mamas and Papas reeled me in on their descriptions.

For example their Steam Punk collection is described as: "Waiting backstage are little rock stars wearing cool denims teamed with T-shirts layered with stylish knits from the Limited edition Steam Punk collection." What the hell do they mean by steam punks?
This would definitely be a hit backstage. I feel it.

This is like a Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl dream.

The Mamas & The Papas. I always think of this band whenever I see or hear about the shop.
This isn't a bad thing.

Crush

When did Rhianna get so fierce? I love her new song Rude Boy. It's pure filth and I've never had a girl crush on this pop star until now. I've always been more of a Beyonce girl myself but maybe it's time for a change.

Her video for Rude Boy is 80s-tastic with loads of colours and hip grinding. There would have to be some hip grinding considering the lyrics to this wee gem. I even spotted a Baby G watch, remember those?! I feel a revival of the Baby G coming up. The monochrome bodysuit she wears in the video is similar to one I saw the model/DJ (this means she probably does neither except not eat, smoke and look cool) Leigh Lezark wearing at Paris fashion week recently. Imagine being able to carry off something that looks like your about to go deep sea diving? Credit is due. I love her hair. Let's hear it for the girls! I can't stop thinking about Rhianna's quiff, it's the coolest quiff I've seen in a while.

Poptastic Baby G. I didn't have one the first time round. I lusted after them madly but my mum wouldn't buy me one. My friend Julie had and I used to wear it sometimes when I was round at hers. It was the pink one.

How catchy is this tune!!

Making a Statement

These photos are brilliant. Ou Zhihang, a Chinese photographer and TV personality, photographed himself doing naked push ups at sites in China that have hit the headlines. He said that he "created this series because news passes, while art lasts forever. I want the world to understand China through these pictures".

The Sunday Times Magazine always has some great photos in it's Spectrum section. There's always a few which can be quite unsettling but it's good to be aware of what's really going on in the world. Never underestimate the power of a photograph. Definitely my favourite part of the Sunday papers.
