Alice in Milan

Back to reality, back to Aberdeen, not going to be in New York in the near future and movies offer us just as much escapism but without the confusing time zones that cause jet lag.

This afternoon I finally went to see Tim Burton's Disney venture Alice in Wonderland. I thought it was a great effort from Burton. The film test for me is managing to sit through a film without wondering when I can be free, much like Alice would in a cinema situation I expect. And with this film my brain managed not to cross into those thoughts. Although with at least half an hour of adverts it was definitely a bum number. I'm sure adverts before films are getting longer each time I go to the cinema. I did like the look of a couple of films nestled in the adverts though. These were Toy Story 3 for obvious reasons and one about how to train your dragon. It just looked fun. They were both computer generated animations.

Moschino, the fun and fearless Italian fashion powerhouse have designed a brand new hotel. It has a Wonderland theme. Everything seems to be at the moment but I'm not complaining and either will you when you look at the photos. Maison Moschino is situated in a former Milan railway station and is divided into four floors and 65 rooms. Each of the rooms has a fairy-tale theme. A Moschino representative said the rooms were created "because to sleep is to perchance to dream, and dreams are fairy tales that we are allowed to experience first hand, the fables of a fantasy world that we have created". The rooms look absolutely beautiful and I would like to steal a night's sleep from all of them.

The Zzzzzzzzzzz room. Curiouser and curiouser...

The Forest Room. I want that owl! How enchanting.

Alice's Room. How very apt. I wonder if the Mad Hatter and March Hare will be there in all their Scottish glory? Apparently Johnny Depp studied Rab C Nesbitt episodes to perfect his Scottish accent. He's now a big fan of our Rab.

This is the lobby. Don't worry, not everyone who frequents this hotel is so beautiful and skinny. These are models mulling about after the Moschino Cheap and Chic show. As you do. Those sheep are amazing.

Sleeping in a Ballgown. Yes this is the name of this room. How very literal, fashiony and decadent.

The Moshino Cheap and Chic AW10 fashion show was held in the new hotel last month. Pretty popstar Pixie Lott performed and the crowd were treated to salami and white chocolate sandwiches. Quite disturbingly, I find this sandwich filling appealing. White chocolate is my biggest vice apart from the others you see. The concept was different types of women who may arrive and depart the hotel. Notice the glamourous maid. Fun stuff.

Leopard head to toe? It's the way to do it! More is more.

Maid in ruffles.
Raspberries and cream. She looks good enough to eat.

More leopard mixing and complete with luggage.
Model and violin case. I like seeing the girls smile as it's not the fashion norm.

Speaking of movies. Last night I watched The Hudsucker Proxy for the first time. I'm turning into a bit of an obsessive fan of the Coen brothers' work. The film is brilliant and I urge anyone who hasn't seen it to get a hold of it. It portrays the capitalist system, the media and the American dream all rolled into one entertaining watch and seems way ahead of it's time. Once again the characters that have been built are something else. Amy Archer, the straight talking journo who doesn't stop talking is another ace female character to add to the list of my favourite females in films.

Here's the original trailer for it's 1994 release. It's on Amazon for £4.12 and worth every penny.

  1. "Let me show you something I came up with. You know, for kids."

That hotel looks amazing. You would want to stay in your room the whole time.
