Me and She & Him

She & Him are the gorgeous duo Zooey Deschanel, also known as she, and M.Ward also known as Matt or him.  They have been making sweet music together for some time now having released their debut album Volume one in 2008.  Volume two is due for release on 7 April.  When you listen to their laid back tunes like 'Why do you let me stay here?' and new single 'In the sun' influences such as the Beach Boys and Neil Young ripple through.

On their Myspace page it says "She & Him make music for an eternal Springtime" and "They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers".  Now, I don't know what sort of stimulants the person who wrote that was on, but doesn't that just fill you with cupcake filled goodness?  All that time in the coldest winter we've had in decades has made me crave Springtime in bucket loads.   This is probably very obvious from the blog entries.  I daydream in easter bunnies.

The Beach Boys are definitely one of the best bands to have existed.  Brian Wilson in The aptly named Pet Sounds Arena at T in the Park a few years ago was by far the best gig I've seen.

We all knew Zooey could sing after watching the amazing Christmas film Elf but who knew she was so great at songwriting?  Really want to catch this band live.

There's no denying, the girl's got style.

Is it warm enough to wear this on Saturday night??  The website I wrote about in a previous blog ModCloth (the one with the couple and the cute Pug) has lots of clothes which Deschanel would love.  I said before that a dress there reminded me of  a Deschanel character Summer from '500 days of Summer' but I think Zooey and Summer are the same person.  Except we don't like the ending to that film.  It has been discussed in depth on a Facebook thread.

She & Him

Zooey Deschanel in 'Almost Famous'.  The inspiration (along with The Beatles obviously) for Penny Lane.

The Almost Famous soundtrack is great as are The Beach Boys.  I particularly love the Smiley Smile album cover.

This is a really funny interview I found on their Myspace page.  We heart Brian Wilson.

Spring frolics!

  1. One of my biggest T in the Park mistakes. Missing Brian Wilson. The other being choosing to see Ian Brown over Prodigy.
